It’s the time of year for graduation gowns and valedictorian addresses. How can employers and corporations help young people succeed? Barbato advocates for organizations to do their part in hiring young people, giving them skills, including them in work place committees and structures and instilling a mentoring culture.

Gen Y is right. We have it all wrong.
Generation Y or Millennium Generation is a cohort of individuals born between about 1980 and 2000. They are the kids of the Baby Boomers and estimated to be as many as 75M individuals in the US. They constitute the most economically and socially influential segment of the population today.
We’ve all complained about Gen Ys inherited sense of entitlement and their high, many times unrealistic expectations of themselves and others. Well what if they are right and we had it all wrong. Imagine a workplace where their innate optimism, independent thinking, and drive for social integration and change are allowed to flourish and grow. Gen Ys are poised to change the business world. Mentoring is a great way to train and enhance a person’s skills. It can also be hugely cost effective for organizations.
